Houston AC Drain Line Clog Causes Water Damage Risk — Here’s How We Fixed It
Water around your air conditioner inside the attic is never something Houston homeowners should ignore. During a recent service call at a local Houston, TX residence, we found standing water in both the primary drain pan and the return area of a residential air conditioning system.
After inspecting the system, we discovered the main condensate drain line was clogged, causing water to overflow into the secondary drain pan. This is a common issue in Houston’s humid climate, where algae and debris can quickly build up inside drain lines.
To resolve the problem, we blew out and vacuumed the clogged drain line, fully removed the water from the secondary pan, and re-leveled the drain line to restore proper slope and drainage. Once cleared and corrected, the condensate line was flowing properly at the time of departure, with no further overflow.
Houston Homeowner Tip:
Clogged drain lines are one of the most common causes of water damage around AC systems. Annual maintenance or a seasonal drain line flush can prevent costly ceiling, drywall, and air quality issues—especially during Houston’s long cooling season.
