Furnace Short Cycling in Bellaire? A Sticking Pressure Switch Could Be the Cause
Bellaire homeowners rely on their gas furnaces to run safely and consistently during cold snaps. Recently, we responded to a service call in the Bellaire, TX area where a homeowner noticed their furnace starting and stopping repeatedly instead of completing a normal heating cycle.
During inspection, we found the inducer motor was short cycling, turning on and off rapidly. This behavior pointed to an airflow or safety control issue. Further diagnosis revealed a sticking pressure switch diaphragm, which was remaining partially open when it should have been closed. This caused the furnace’s safety system to interrupt operation.
To resolve the issue, the vacuum line was removed and cleared, freeing the diaphragm so the pressure switch could operate correctly again. Once restored, the furnace was able to run through a full heating cycle without interruption.
